Ultrasound for faster, more accurate treatment

Donations to our Charity fund improvements where they’re needed most. With your support, plus an additional significant contribution from our partners at Health Education England, our Croydon Health Charity has provided a brand new ultrasound machine to our Acute Medical Unit (AMU).

It is already seeing constant use. The team uses it to increase the speed and accuracy of diagnosis and is sharing it with other Croydon wards whenever their patients can benefit too.

This high quality diagnosis makes all the difference in acute and critical care. For example, during an emergency ‘chest drain’ the device helps the cannula tube to be targeted perfectly first-time, which helps a patients’ comfort as well as outcomes. Other conditions that can benefit include pulmonary edema, deep vein thrombosis and dozens more.

Dr Hubba Akhtar, a Junior Doctor in AMU, said:

This portable device, which is like an expanded version of a midwife’s scanner, is a great addition to our medical care. Ultrasound technology is always moving forward and critical care, globally, is adopting it because of the difference it makes. As always, it’s great that we can bring the latest techniques to Croydon. So a huge thanks to people for donating to the Croydon Health Charity.

Our hard-working teams definitely earn their breaktimes, so we also want to thank the Charity for installing a TV in our staff area. All these things help our services to keep running well.
